BPW Launch National Conference on Family Issues...
Colm O’ Gorman, Geoffrey Shannon and Pat Dolan to Lead Expert Panel of Speakers
Conference to be opened by Mrs Fionnuala Kenny
Celebrating 25 years, BPW Galway will host a National Conference on The Family, in the Hotel Meyrick on Thursday 22nd September.
Entitled “The Family in Ireland 2011, Challenge or Opportunity”, the conference will bring together leading national thought leaders on family law, child and family research, human rights, sociology, consumer protection and gerontology. A key focus of the conference will be an exploration of the rapidly changing dynamics of the family in the current society.
The conference will be officially opened by Mrs. Fionnaula Kenny, wife of An Taoiseach.
Key note speakers include Professor Pat Dolan NUI Galway, Geoffrey Shannon Chairman of the Adoption Society, Bernard Sheridan Director of Consumer Protection Central Bank of Ireland, Colm O’ Gorman Executive Director of Amnesty Ireland, Robin Webster Chief Executive of Age Action Ireland and Jennifer O’Connell Founding Editor of The Journal.ie
Presentations from key speakers will take place from 11.00-3.30 with Q&A immediately following the conclusion of the morning and afternoon sessions. Lunch is provided from 1-2pm. Admission costs €25 with a concession of €15 for students, seniors and the unwaged.

Speaking at the launch, BPW Galway President Michelle Murphy said “This conference is a major event for the BPW Organisation both locally and nationally. It brings together high calibre speakers to discuss issues that are affecting families every day. As we move deeper in to the recession, families have come to bare the brunt of the economic difficulties. Our key note speakers will explore the challenges facing families and look at possible ways forward’.
